    Customer Cooker Slow Reviews

I have this Crock Pot but my crock insert is white instead of black. I bought this cooker Slow probably in the late 1990s. I own three slow cookers (the Rival 3-1/2-quart oval and the Rival 6-quart), and this is the best one and the one I use the most. It is 2-1/2 quarts and is perfect for two people. It cooks the best out of all three of my slow cookers as it does not overcook the food as the other two will. I find that the cooking times listed in most slow cooker cookbooks are very accurate for this Crock Pot, but for my other two larger models, I must reduce the cooking time. I have never had overcooked food in this slow cooker. Everything has always cooked to perfection. Most recipes in slow cooker cookbooks are written for 6 to 8 servings. If I cut the recipes in half, they will fit perfectly in this Crock Pot and fill it 3/4 full. That is just enough food for my husband and me and will usually leave leftovers for one or two more meals for one person. This Programmable crock pot also looks very nice as it is all white and matches my kitchen, so it is always out on the counter. I use it many times a week and I am very happy with it. Since it cooks at such a low temperature, whenever I cook meat, I use the high setting for the first hour and then reduce it to low and cook for one hour less than the stated recipe (since one hour on high is equal to two hours on low). Everything turns out perfectly this way. The potatoes and carrots are perfectly tender and have not cooked down to mush as has happened in my larger, more powerful Crock Pots.

I highly recommend this Rival Crock if the size is big enough for you because it works the way slow cookers are supposed to work - cooking the food slowly and gently.

5.0 out of 5 stars It’s great programmable crock pot ,

300-watt cooker slow with removable 8.5-qt. pot DON’T LISTEN TO NEGATIVES THEY HAVE BUYERS REMORSE ITS A GREAT POT..I have had this crock pot for almost 2 years and use it weekly sometimes daily. I have never burnt food or had a blotched meal from it i don’t know where any negative comments are coming from other than maybe there cooking on high all day long. I just recently took first place in a chili contest which was all cooked in this pot. I cook roast, chicken ribs and much more. My family is big i have 6 people to feed and this thing will cook enough for left overs. DON’T LISTEN TO NEGATIVES THEY HAVE BUYERS REMORSE ITS A GREAT POT

5.0 out of 5 stars I have no idea how well this cooks food, I use this programmable crock pot to make soap not soup!!!,

Stop reading here if you are planning on buying this to cook food in. I have no idea how well it works for food. I can tell you that it is perfect for making cold and hot processed soap. The low setting is great to melt down the oils I use. For cold process soap I then turn off the crock pot, add my lye mixture and start stirring in the ceramic insert. It keeps the soap warm enough that it reaches trace fairly quickly. For hot process soap I leave the crock pot turned on low and follow my soap recipe directions.

The mother of all programmable crock pot5
If you have a family, or entertain larger groups, this is the crock pot you want.

I did more research than I care to admit before finally settling on this model/brand/etc. There were better deals elsewhere, but this price is more than worth it for this 6 Quart cooker slow

I have braised, made stews, sauces, and even corned beef in this not-so-little guy, and all have come out great. I never had an “old crock pot” so I can not attest to the heat issues, but I have had none. Just make sure you are home with it the first time you cook, and you’ll get a good idea quickly of how much water and what not you would need in the future.

It cooks really evenly, and I have not had a problem with things burning when it is sat out to just keep warm when I’m entertaining.

The little guy that comes with the big pot is also cool, though I haven’t figured out how to best use him yet. My husband and I treated ourselves to some chocolate fondue (which worked pretty well) with the little version, but I think there’s probably more potential there.

The only downside to this product is that it’s big and takes up a good chunk of space. That said, if you need a 6 quart crock pot, it’s because you need something that can fit a lot of food! :)

Overall, a good pressure cooker made by the classic company. If you play smart, I promise you will love this one.

    love it!5
I bought this about six years ago, and have been thrilled with it ever since. It is perfect for cooking a moist, fragrant (using herbs) ~7lb roaster chicken, cooking dry beans overnight or during the day (without soaking!), chili, soup, tomato sauce from those big, cheap Costco cans of tomatoes to freeze, etc… we’ve also made shepherd’s pie (making the potatoes separately and browning in the oven) and other dishes. It does get a little hot, but that seems normal to me - I just make sure nothing surrounds it while cooking, especially paper or plastic. I’ve never had any problems with the handles. It cleans easily unless something like cheese has burnt around the edges, and if it has, just soak for a while. The only time I’ve had a problem with overcooking was early on when I had not read the directions first (duh) and put lone chicken breasts in the bottom with some sauce and they turned out very dry. You are supposed to fill it one-half to 3/4 full for proper heat distribution. For this reason, I’ve been thinking lately of getting a smaller slow cooker for smaller portions. I also love the four different time settings and the keep warm function. If you know you love cooker slow already, you might consider one of the new, more versatile ones that let you input your own time setting, etc., but if you are new to slow cooking or just like the basics, this is a fantastic one to choose!

ps. I suggest you get the white one… my in-laws got a black one, and it is very difficult to see when cleaning to make sure it is completely clean. There’s no second guessing with the white one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for empty nester …. or a student!,

This little cooker slow has everything you need: programmable crock pot, longer cord, three (*3*) heat settings, glass metal-rimmed lid, small footprint. As far as I can tell, it doesn’t overheat, even on high. I just made a wonderful roast in it: about 1.5-Quart Cooker Slow chuck roast (trimmed), 1 medium Walla Walla sweet onion, 2/3 can low-sodium beef broth, 2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce, and 1 Tbsp no-salt garlic/herb seasoning blend; brown the roast in a little oil, put in crock pot with other ingredients; cook on high for 4.5 hrs or on low for 8 hrs should do the trick; thicken the juice with a little cornstarch for gravy to serve over mashed potatoes — HEAVEN!!!

It’s the perfect size for 2-3 chicken breast halves, a small pork roast or a pork tenderloin or two, a nice small pot of soup, etc. You should get enough for a meal today plus leftovers for a couple of additional meals. Clean up is a breeze with the removable crock, and the exterior of the unit cleans just fine with a damp cloth. The small footprint allows for out-of-the-way placement on the countertop for cooking, and easier storage. I’m an older adult grad student, and this little cooker is going to get a lot of use this winter while I’m working on my thesis. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Isn’t this just the cutest little cooker Slow?,

I needed a 1.5-Quart Cooker Slow for dips, and this unit has proved to be the perfect choice. Well made, inexpensive, and versitile temp control. It will fit in nicely with my two larger cookers. BUT, I’ve got to question all the reviewers that said it’s perfect for small families. How small are we talkin’ here? Like Barbie doll size? This is a tiny cooker. It will hold 3-4 chicken breasts, or one very small chicken. It would cook just about the right amount of oatmeal for two adults, but beyond that it’s suited for two adult sized entree at best unless you pack it with food and sit on the top.

Here’s a good small sized recipe:
Brown 1.5# of cubed pork chunks(shoulder or butt) and add to cooker with one medium sliced onion, 1 chopped jalapeno pepper with seeds, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp minced garlic(or 4 whole cloves) and one can crushed tomatillos. Cook overnight on low. Fill tortillas and add chopped onion, sour cream, and cheese if you like. Enjoy.

No more excuses to buy pre-washed salad greens5.0 out of 5 stars

I’ve avoided making salads for a long time because of the preparation time. I had an older salad spinner, but it was the kind you had to turn, and cleaning it afterwards always seemed to take a long time. This crock pot is a huge improvement over any I’ve used before.

You put the rinsed greens in the strainer, or rinse them after they’re in, and then put the strainer in the bowl. One easy push and it spins on its own and it does not move around at all on the counter. I have found that it takes a couple spins to dry them the way I like, but while the greens are spinning, you can be chopping up other salad ingredients.

Even better, you can lock the handle in the “down” position and use this spinner to store the unused greens in the fridge; no separate “lettuce saver” is needed. I’ve had leaf lettuce in mine for several days, and it is still crisp and fresh. Since buying this remarkable spinner, I’ve had salad every night. And enjoyed every minute of it, preparation included!

If you love salads but hate the prep, get this. You will wonder how you ever got along without it.

A Leafy Lettuce Lover,5.0 out of 5 stars

I was introduced to OXO tools by my sister when she gave me one of their peelers. She swore that it would make me search for things to peel because it was such a pleasure to use. She was absolutely right! Since then I have become an avid OXO devotee and own many of their products. But the VERY BEST of them all is the Good Grips Salad Spinner. I adore leafy lettuce but always found washing it to be such a chore that on some days I would just skip the salad routine altogether. I had used several styles of lettuce spinners during the past 20 years, but none were even in the same league as the OXO Salad Spinner. Believe it or not — I actually enjoy washing greens with this device and use it every day. Using the best tool available makes any task more satisfying, and this is the creme de la creme of salad spinners. Have no doubt, this is a purchase you will be glad you made each time you use it. And you will want to use it! I’ve found that washing the lettuce and draining the excess water from the bowl, then refrigerating the lettuce in the spinner before spinning yields crispy greens. A good thing to do early in the day, then just a quick spin later for a fast salad. I, as another reviewer wrote, also give this cooker slow frequently as a gift and it is always a hit.

Cooker stainless steel it’s large, temperature settings, timer, but short cord?4
I read all the slow cooker crock pot reviews and whining in the reviews of the kitchenaid slow cooker. The bottom line it’s a crock pot. What goes in hopefully comes out just great, but there are some stainless steel slow cooker features to be aware of that may help you make a choice.

    Pro’s:
    - Nice 7 quart pot capacity, and intead of round or oval, you have more of a rectangular basin which makes some select cuts of meats easier to work with.
    - In addition to the traditional High and Low settings, you also have a ‘Simmer’ and ‘Buffet’ mode….nice additions to have if you leave your pot out during parties.
    - Rubber gasket on lid. The glass lid has a black rubber gasket that when properly place on bowl, helps seal in heat and steam vapors.

    Most Versatile cooker Slow Option5
This hamilton beach slow cooker is the very best, with crock pot in multiple sizes and heat settings that range between high and warm. The heat source is extremely reliable and calibrated for typical slow cooker recipes. As mentioned by hamilton beach slow cooker reviews, it is a fairly large unit, but the big handles make manipulation easy and safe and it is worth the trade-off.I have had a number of slow cookers over the years ranging from the most basic of 1970’s era Crock Pots” to expensive and high end hamilton slow cooker, and this crock pots slow cookers is my hands-down favorite and slow cooker best.

  • Crock Pot and Slow Cooking: Making the Most Out of Them

If you are pressed for time, slow cooker or crock pot cooking offers the perfect solution in both flexibility and versatility.

When you put together the benefits of limited preparation, the use of one pot and the time saved by not having to prepare a meal on the spot, you know you have a winner. A meal can be cooked and served from the same pot, without having to juggle pots and pans and serving dishes.

Imagine coming home after a long hard day and smelling that your meal is already cooking, just waiting - a pure plummet in your stress levels.

If you don’t already own a slow cooker, there are a number of things you need to look at before deciding on the best one for you and your family.

The first consideration will be the size of the cooker. Small versions can be handy if you eat a lot of appetizers, dips, and salsas. Generally these are 16 oz. or quart size and are perfect for serving these types of foodstuffs. Obviously, they are the best size also if you are cooking for one. A large family would be best served with a 5 quart or maybe a 7 quart model.

The second thing to think about is the type of cooking you usually do, or plan to do with your slow cooker. If you are wanting to slow cook large or awkward cuts, like rack of lamb, you will definitely need the larger crock pot version.

There are a couple of options available as far as control of the slow cooking goes. If controlling or setting the temperature is your wish, there are crock pots that let you do this.

The other option is that you can just opt for a push button model that cooks at preset low or high temperature settings and sometimes a warmer setting. You need to be aware that if the “low” setting is too low and the lid is not on properly, the cooking temperature can drop below the safe level for cooking some foods.

Finally, you need to look at the heating elements. Crock pots can come with either bottom or side elements, or they can have both. Pots with side elements often require more liquid while slow cooking to avoid the risk of drying up over long cooking times.

If you are someone who really enjoys mixing things up and experimenting, slow cooking provides a wealth of possibilities. Where the crock pot really takes its place head and shoulders above any other cooking method is for slow cooking leaner and cheaper cuts of meat. The moist, long, slow cooking provides very tender meats where the fat is either dissolved or very easy to remove.

There are a few things you need to remember with crock pot cooking. Some meals will require the ingredients to be added at different times. For example, a casserole may require the meat to be cooked for a few hours before you then add firm vegetables, with softer vegetables being added toward the end of cooking.

As a rule of thumb, you should add things like spices, herbs and seasonings at the beginning of the cooking cycle, and things like frozen vegetables and seafood toward the end. Since ingredients are generally thoroughly cooked over a long period of time, a lot of stirring is not recommended or the food may break apart or turn to mush.

The versatility of the crock pot even allows you to create breads and desserts, but this is one area where you must take particular care during preparation. This becomes even more important if you are leaving your creation unattended while it is cooking. An over beaten or whipped dessert can quite easily raise the lid off the crock pot and create an ugly mess. This is certainly something you would not want to come home to after a long day at work.

A crock pot can deliver meals as classic as pot roast and vegetables, as simple as a cream cheese layer dip, or as complex and spicy as paella. The crock pit is one kitchen appliance that can rightly be called the cook’s best friend, especially if you learn to use it to its full potential.
